Rob Mclean
Rob
is a fun, active, friendly and capable qualified sailor waiting to bring
his wide range of talents to your yacht whether it is private or charter; motor
or sail.
He
was born less than a mile from the sea on the South Coast of England (Brighton
– East Sussex) and has never been more than a stone’s throw away from it since.
Rob
is a qualified Civil Engineer, Web Site Designer & Computer Aided Design
Specialist (AutoCAD) who used to work in the City of London (UK) as a
manager for the London International Financial Futures & Options Exchange (LIFFE)
www.liffe.com
He
ran yachts in the UK for many years in his spare time through his involvement
in LIFFE’s Sports & Social club.
Rob
set up LIFFE’s sailing team from nothing, raising sponsorship and introducing
beginners to the sport for free and teaching them to sail, building a team
that has won many events. Many of those people then going on to take their
yacht master qualifications themselves.
He
took up sailing professionally in 1999 after a racing across the
Atlantic Ocean (ARC) finishing 3rd overall in 1996 and 9th
overall out of over 200 yachts in 1999.
From
starting sailing at the age of six on dinghies, Rob moved on to larger
vessels progressively over many years after his father purchased his first
boat.
“He
is as capable at the end of a spinnaker pole as up the top of the mast or
behind the wheel.”
Rob’s
experience includes a huge amount of successful racing on dinghies and
keelboats. He also has experience as deckhand and delivery mate on a 28m
Charter Ketch “Jasali”, crew on a 34 metre Brooks Motor Yacht “Kiring”, 85ft
Maxi racing yacht “Kialoa 5”, various Swan yachts including “Golden Aura”, “Crackerjack” and “Evrika” and even Oyster
Yachts including “Talisman” not to mention the Beneteau’s & Jeaneau’s of
which there are too many to mention.
He
was even part of the build team for the British Entry for the 2002
America’s Cup Challenge
Rob
has over 50,000Nm experience including some 5000hrs of night time
watch experience and some 1330 days aboard yachts in the past 4 years.
He
never lost his passion for dinghies however, sailing 1720’s, fireballs, lasers,
505’s, Projection 762’s & 930’s, 18ft Skiffs & Hobbies cats with his
brother and friends on the South Coast of the UK when he can.
Rob
holds his Class 4 Master of Yachts Qualification after his final Exam on
21st December 2001, an intensive course that now allows him to captain vessels
of up to 3000 Gross Tons.
This
makes him as highly qualified as he can get in his field without
joining the navy or the merchant navy! He’s at the top of the tree ensuring you
and your family, friends and guests (not to mention your yacht) are as safe
as possible at all times!
He
is also a PADI Open Water scuba diver and a green belt in Ju-Jitsu. It
has also been known for Rob to play the guitar and tell some pretty poor
jokes as well as knocking up a mean chilli or cottage pie!
Rob
is a hard working enthusiastic and conscientious skipper with a
positive attitude. This, coupled with attention to detail, makes him ideal for
running any yacht.
